Brookland Yoga was founded by Sharlene Bagga-Taves,
an experienced yoga teacher and proud resident of Brookland, Washington, D.C.
I am a yoga teacher, public health practitioner and mother of one, living in Brookland, Washington, D.C. I first tried yoga after spraining my ankle in 2002, and was hooked! After years of practice, I came to love the mental health benefits of yoga just as much as the physical, and I firmly believe that yoga is an important preventative health tool that can be used by everyone.
Through my own yoga practice I have learned how to breathe deeply and mindfully, and to call on that breathing in situations where I might otherwise be extremely nervous, like my first small plane flight, or when preparing for surgery.
I became a yoga teacher in 2013 and since then, I have taught in yoga studios, corporate settings and spaces around Washington, D.C, including at my local farmer's market in Brookland. My hope in teaching yoga is to share with my students what I have learned in my practice, so that they too can enjoy the physical and mental benefits of yoga, both on and off the mat. I look forward to meeting you!
